A concept guide to Flint, Michigan
Downtown Flint in 5 stops
A short walk down Saginaw Street, from the Vehicle City arch to the Flint River. Five places, with local spots to visit at each one.
The Vehicle City arch
The street opens under the arch, and the lights come on at dusk.
Flint earned the name Vehicle City from the carriages and then the cars built here. The arch over Saginaw Street says so to everyone who drives under it.
- Hoffman’s Deco Deli & Cafe: Deli and cafe on South Saginaw Street.
- Xolo: Latin American and Mexican kitchen on South Saginaw Street.
Capitol Theatre
The marquee glows after dark, and the block fills up before showtime.
The Capitol Theatre has been a downtown movie and stage house for generations. Its marquee is one of the first things people photograph.
- Cork on Saginaw: Wine bar with a locally sourced menu, a short walk from the theater.
- Churchill’s Food & Spirits: Food and cocktails on South Saginaw Street.
Flint Farmers’ Market
Morning light, produce stands, and a long row of awnings.
The market is where downtown shops for food and meets neighbors. Vendors set up early and the hall stays busy through the afternoon.
- Steady Eddy’s Market Cafe: Cafe inside the market.
- Market vendors: More than 50 vendors: produce, bread, cheese, barbecue, and more.
The riverfront
The street meets the Flint River and the pace slows down.
The Flint River runs through the middle of town. The riverfront trails and bridges give downtown a quiet edge.
- Chevy Commons: Riverside park on a former General Motors plant site, a few blocks from downtown.
- Flint River Trail: Paved trail along the river, linking downtown to Chevy Commons and Carriage Town.
Plan your visit
From above, the whole walk fits on one street.
All five stops sit within a short walk of each other. Park once, start at the arch, and finish at the river.
